Instructions: Unlock bootloader on any Nexus device

Step 1: First, make sure you have been through the requirements section above. It will help you in all 3 procedures.

Step 2: Make sure that you setup ADB and Fastboot on your PC (files in the prerequisites). Trust the connection by checking “Always allow from this computer” when you plug in your Android device to your PC for the first time.

Step 3: Now keep the device plugged in and open a command prompt or terminal on your PC. You can simply click the address/location bar in Windows and type “cmd”. Alternatively, hold the shift key on the keyboard and right-click on an empty space and select “Open command window here” option to launch a cmd window.

Step 4: Boot your Android device into the bootloader or Fastboot mode. To do so, issue the following command through cmd or terminal. Use code while your device is still connected:

adb reboot bootloader
(Alternatively, you can also manually boot into it using the hard key combination like Power+Volume Down while the device is turned off.)

Step 5: Once you boot into the fastboot mode (bootloader mode), issue the following command in the command prompt to check your device connectivity. It should provide you with some device code. Check screenshots below.

Step 6: This is optional, but you can still proceed. Now issue the following command to get the bootloader unlock status on your device.

fastboot oem unlock-info
Note: Check the bootloader status. If it’s locked, then issue the following command to unlock it. (This will reset your device and you will lose all data and apps.)

This is the older unlock bootloader code used for Nexus 5, 6, 9, 7, etc. For newer devices, check below.

fastboot oem unlock
For newer Nexus devices, the bootloader code has now changed since Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. For devices like Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, use the following code:

fastboot flashing unlock

This will first flash the TWRP recovery. Once that is done, you can flash SuperSU via TWRP. We have a detailed tutorial and alternate methods to flash the TWRP recovery. You can either click here if you need more instructions or just follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Reboot your device once and reboot back into the fastboot mode (Bootloader mode) See steps 1 to 5 in above method.

Step 2: Navigate to the location where you have placed the Nexus TWRP recovery image file. Rename the recovery file to a simple one, like recovery.img. While the folder with recovery.img file is open, launch command prompt or terminal.

Step 3: Now flash the recovery image. Issue the following command for that.

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Note that, you need to use the correct file name with proper extension.

Step 4: Wait until the recovery gets installed.

Once the installation completes, you can now enjoy your new firmware. Alternatively, while, on Mac OS, you can issue “./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img” command or on Linux type “sudo fastboot flash recovery recovery.img” to flash the TWRP.

How to Root Nexus on Android 7.0 Nexus using TWRP?

Make sure you have TWRP installed. Once you install TWRP, it’s time to root.

Place the latest SuperSU package in your device’s internal storage or SDcard.
Boot your device into the custom TWRP recovery. For that, turn off your device completely and hold volume down and power buttons for a few seconds.
Once into TWRP, take a full Nandroid backup.
Tap the Install button and select the SuperSU file.
Swipe through the confirmation action below and start flashing. Once done, reboot to system.

How To Flash TWRP & Root Android 7.0 Nougat for Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge With SuperSU

The rooting procedure is very similar to that of the S6 Marshmallow firmware. Check out this tutorial for a detailed explanation. It involves flashing SuperSU via TWRP. First, we will setup TWRP on the device and then flash the SuperSU file.

Prerequisites to root Nougat on Galaxy S6 (Edge)

Download latest Samsung Drivers
Download latest ODIN 3.12.3
Download patched SuperSU to avoid bootloops → N920_Nougat_Root_SuperSU_No_kernel_included.zip
Download latest TWRP for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Instructions to Root Galaxy S6 (Edge) on Nougat

Download all the required files from above. Transfer the SuperSU and patched SuperSU files into the S6 device internal storage and others to PC.

Reboot your device into Download/Odin Mode. To do so, turn off your device completely and then press and hold Power button + Volume Down + Home keys for a few seconds.
Run Odin tool with administrator rights.
Connect your device to your PC using a USB cable. Make sure you get a successful connection message in Odin software.
From Odin click on AP button and add TWRP tar file in the AP slot. Disable Auto-Reboot and click on “Start” button.

How to Install TWRP Recovery on Samsung Galaxy Devices Using Odin:

Step 1: Download the compatible TWRP file for your for your Galaxy device. Extract the zip file to get the firmware with .tar or .tar.md5 extension and place at a location where you can easily locate it in your PC.

Step 2: Now boot your device into Download/Odin Mode. To do so, turn off your device completely and then press and hold Power button + Volume Down + Home keys for a few seconds. If you see a warning sign press Volume up/ Volume down to get the Odin screen.

Step 3: If you already have Odin software on your PC then simply run the Odin3_3.10.7.exe file. If not, then download the Odin3.zip file from the download section and extract it. Run Odin software as administrator.Step 4: While your device is still in the Odin Mode, connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.

Step 5: After a successful connection, the ID: COM in the Odin should turn Blue and an Added!! message should be displayed in the Log tab. In case your device doesn’t show up in Odin, then you can troubleshoot it with the steps given at the end of the tutorial.

Step 6: Now click on AP button and add the firmware file by navigating to the file path. Once added, it should show like this twrp-3.1.0-0-zerolte.img.tar

Step 7: Take care that only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are selected in the Options tab. Do not check Re-Partition.

Step 8: Once done, verify everything and proceed with installation by selecting Start button.

Step 9: When you get a PASS! message in the Log tab on your Odin software, that means firmware has successfully been installed and the device will restart itself. If not then reboot manually.

Now that you have successfully installed a custom recovery, you are all set to flash custom packages onto your device.

After installation, Reboot your device into TWRP recovery.
Within TWRP if you see a screen to allow system modifications, allow it.
Then go to home screen and tap on “Install” and select the patched N920_Nougat_Root_SuperSU_No_kernel_included.zip and swipe right to flash.
Once the system is booted, you can now enjoy root access on your Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge on official Nougat firmware.

Disable KNOX from the SuperSU app. Open the SuperSU app and you may see the popup to disable KNOX. Click OK and then restart the device.

How to Fix Bootloop on Samsung Galaxy Device?

If you come across boot loop or your Samsung Galaxy device is stuck at the boot logo then factory reset your device from the recovery. To do so, turn of your device (also remove the battery if applicable and put it back again) and reboot into recovery mode by press and holding Power + Volume down + Home keys for a few seconds. From the Recovery, select Wipe Data / Factory Reset. Confirm the action and reboot once done. Your device should now boot up.

How to Troubleshoot Connectivity problem on Samsung Galaxy Device?

If your device doesn’t show up in the Odin software, then turn off USB Debugging and turn it on again and Reboot. You can also reinstall the Samsung USB Drivers or try changing the USB cable and connection ports from device manager.

How to boot into TWRP

Turn off your device and then press and hold volume down + the power button simultaneously for a few seconds. When you see the TWRP logo screen, you have successfully booted into it.
