How to make Wifi Repeater, Extender at home using your Android Phone

If you want to use your Android device as wifi repeater/extender there can be many reasons like your laptop is not catching wifi signal where your phone catches it, or you want to use that wifi network on multiple devices but you are restricted to only a few devices, whatever the reasons be let’s cut it short.

There is no any successful app in the market for this purpose. Here I am sharing a very small and easy trick which will work on all android powered smartphones no root required to help you from all these problems.

So all you need is an Android Smartphone. And follow the steps given below:

Connect Your Android Device to any wifi network.

Now go to settings and then tethering and portable hotspot.

Here you will get two modes to share your wifi network i.e. via USB tethering or via Bluetooth tethering

you can connect the other device by any of these options.

Do Not Click On Wifi Tethering as This Will Turn Off The Bluetooth

P.S.: Inbuilt Bluetooth tethering option is only available on Android devices running Android version 4.0 or later.

If your Android device is not that much upgraded then you can install any Bluetooth tethering app available in the market suitable for your android version like PdaNet+.

How to connect using Bluetooth tethering:

First Of all Pair the Android device with the another device via Bluetooth.

Now in tethering and portable hotspot enable Bluetooth tethering.

For Windows device:

Navigate to Devices and Printers

Select your android device and right click on it.

Select Connect Using Access Point

Done!!! Now You can use your Android Device’s wifi connection on your Windows laptop.

For Android powered devices:

On the other Android device select the name of your paired Bluetooth Android device with wifi connection.

Select Internet access in Profile Column.

Done!!! Now you can share the Wifi Internet connection on other device using Bluetooth Tethering. There are many drawbacks of this method:

Since Both Wifi and Bluetooth tethering are on at the same time it consumes a lot of battery. So you can plug your device into charger and use.

Also, Bluetooth Tethering does not provide as much of speed and Connectivity range as of Wifi Tethering.

Another way is via USB tethering, for this, we just need to connect the android device with wifi connection to our PC using USB cable.

Then navigate to Tethering and Portable Hotspot and select USB tethering.

Done!!! Now you are sharing your Android Device’s wifi network to your PC using USB Tethering.

This method is also useful when your PC does not has the wi-fi adapter and you want to use the Wifi Internet connection.

There is an app in the market called fqrouter2 which supports wifi repeater option on very few rooted Android device. You can give it a try if you want.

I hope you liked this post. Keep reading and comment if you have any question or problem.

Thank you 🙂

Use Android Phone as Wifi Repeater GS7/ share WiFi via Bluetooth [NO ROOT]

Now, Wifi Booster or REPEATER mode is available in Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S7, S7 Edge, S8, S8+ after the Nougat update! This is a hidden feature, which has not recieved much attention from users. This feature can come quiye handy at times!

Everyone of us must have encountered this problem at some point in your life. You have your WiFi connected to one device and you want to share with another, WIRELESS.

It could be that you only seem to be able to pick up a WiFi signal on your phone?
What about if you want to get multiple devices online, but only want to pay to connect one? It could be a paid Hotel WiFi or could be a MAC ID locked WiFi at your student dorm you want to share with your friend.

There is a solution – you can share your phone’s WiFi connection to more phones, tablets and computers using Bluetooth so other devices can get online.

Also, if you have the latest Samsung Galaxy devices, such as the S6, S6 Edge, S7, S7 Edge, S8 or the S8+ with Android Nougat, you can even share the WiFi using your phone as a WiFi repeater or WiFi extender. This is a nice touch from Samsung. This almost works like Connectify in Android. Connectify is a desktop based WiFi sharing application.

So, if you don’t have the above Galaxy phones, you are stuck with Bluetooth tethering, which is painstakingly slow. There used to be an app named fqrouter2 in Play-store for rooted devices, running Android 4.4 or below. But, it doesn’t work with later versions of Android.

Unfortunately, I could not find anyone in XDA Developers actively working for a WiFi repeater app. It can’t be that hard. Apple iPhones could do it long back. Why not make this a standard feature in Android!

Fixing Smartphone Won’t Connect To WiFi Repeater – Range Extender

This is a tutorial about how you can connect to your WiFi Reapeater (Range Extender) when you can’t do that, and your mobile phone will always remain in “connecting” status.

You can’t connect to your repeater (range extender) because you deactivated DHCP, so you will have to setup a static IP in your Android mobile phone:

1. Go to your smartphone’s Settings / WiFi and try to connect to your repeater (range extender).
2. Change from DHCP to Static
3. Modify static IP settings:

I used for this tutorial a TP-LINK wireless router as a repeater. If you have some other WiFi router, you can find your repeater’s IP adress by connecting your Windows PC to your repeater – CMD – ipconfig /all and you cand find all your needed information in “Wireless LAN adapter Wifi” section.

a) IP adress: 192.168.3.2 (always a add at the end another digit, for every device connected, for the next ones 3, 4, 5 and so on)
b) Gateway: 192.168.3.1 (always the same)
c) Network prefix lenght 24 (always the same)
d) DNS 1 si DNS 2 (always the same: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

Now “Save” and all should be fine now. If not, you can repeat all that, because sometimes you have to do it twice, as you can see in my video.

If you want to connect to the repeater interface, you have to setup a different static IP address again:

a) IP address: 192.168.0.2
b) Gateway: 192.168.0.1
c) Network prefix lenght 24
d) DNS 1 si DNS 2: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Hope it helps. Write in the comment section if something doesn’t work for you.
