Instant tethering is coming to Chrome OS to make it easier to get online

For those times when you’re not near a Wi-Fi network, being able to tether to your phone’s data connection can be very useful indeed – provided your phone’s OS, your data plan, and your network provider are all set up to provide tethering of course.

The latest Canary (developer) build of Chrome OS has added an “instant tethering” option that makes it easier to get online this way: once you’ve enabled the feature on the flags page (look for “enable-tether”), it appears as an option on the main settings page.

It’s the same feature we saw come to selected Android devices earlier this year, and it works the same way – if you have a Chromebook and a phone signed into the same Google account, the Chromebook automatically picks up on the phone’s data connection when Wi-Fi isn’t available. You don’t even need to take the phone out of your pocket.

Under the tether

Another added bonus of instant tethering is that the Wi-Fi hotspot being run from your phone automatically starts up and shuts down as needed, so it’s not running all the time and wasting battery life while your Chromebook is switched off.

While it might not change your tethering life, it should make for a more seamless browsing experience when you’re using your Chromebook away from home. Note though that the feature can only be used with a Pixel or Nexus device running Android Nougat, which will also need to have instant tethering enabled (under Google in Settings).

If you don’t want to play around with the Canary build of Chrome OS then you’ll have to wait for it to trickle down to the regular version of the operating system, which shouldn’t take too long.

Instant Tethering feature could make its way to Google Chromebooks soon

Google is apparently planning to expand its support for Instant Tethering to devices like Chromebooks, which run on Chrome OS. As of now, the tech giant has not made any official confirmations, but the feature seems to have arrived in the Canary channel of Chrome OS.

Well, of course, we can’t say how widely useable it is. In any case, the feature is now live in an early version of Chrome OS. So it is safe to assume that the feature will be rolled out to more stable versions of Chrome OS as well. Even if not all, it is definitely going to make its way to Chromebooks. This feature was first noticed by Chrome Story.

here is a catch though; this feature will prove to be useful for Chromebook owners only if they have a Pixel or Nexus phone as well. Well, by the looks of it, the feature has a quite simple approach. The users simply have to be on the Chrome OS Canary channel and tap the ‘Instant Tethering’ option to enable it. After that, Instant Tethering will get listed in the network settings of the Chromebook. Thereafter, you will have the option to enable and disable the feature whenever you want. To refresh your memory, the Instant Tethering feature was introduced by Google at the beginning of 2017. The purpose of the feature is to let Google Pixel and Nexus users share their mobile internet data with other devices. Usually, people use it for sharing the internet data between a phone and a tablet.

5 Ways to Screen Mirror Android Phone to TV for Free

In this video I show you 5 ways to wirelessly screen mirror Android phones and tablets to a TV. So, you can watch YouTube, Netflix, play mobiles or just simple project anything that you are doing on your phone to a bigger screen. This includes regular HD TV’s and Smart TV’s (The kind of TV’s that connect to Wi-Fi)
I even hooked up my Galaxy S3 which is like 7 years old. Other devices that offer screen mirroring may name it something else like screen cast, all share screen, media output, etc.
You will need to open the connection for screen mirroring on both your smartphone and your TV in order for the connection to work successfully.
The quickest way to find out if your device has the Screen Mirroring or Smart View function is to use two fingers to pull down the extended notification menu. If your device does not have these features, you can still connect via Quick Connect.
If you don’t own a Samsung Device Specifically or if you don’t have a Smart TV, your best option would be Screen beam mini 2 which is a wireless display receiver that doesn’t need Internet Connection because it works with Bluetooth.
Last but certainly not least google Chromecast is a media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. Simply use your mobile device and the TV you already own to stream your favorite TV shows, movies, music, sports, games and more.
This device basically turns your dumb TV into a smart TV.
There is another version called Chromecast Ultra which streams up 4k resolution.

if you don’t have Wi-Fi at home or a Smart TV you can also buy an HDMI to Micro USB Adapter, I have another video where I explain how this works just click right here
