Nokia 8 vs Samsung Galaxy S8: Camera, specs and features compared

We compare the Nokia 8 with Samsung’s Galaxy S8, to see how these Android flagships stack up in terms of camera tech, specs and the rest.

The Nokia 8 is the brand’s first Android flagship phone, packing top-end specs and a dual-lens camera for 599 Euros SIM-free. That’s a fair bit more affordable than Samsung’s brilliant Galaxy S8 handset, which currently costs just under £700 here in the UK.

On paper, the Nokia mobile actually sounds more enticing in many ways than Samsung’s S8. For instance, the Nokia 8’s Dual Sight snapper, created in collaboration with optics expert Carl Zeiss, appears to be a serious rival to the Galaxy’s single-lens camera.

So is the Nokia 8 really a smarter choice than Samsung’s S8? Here’s our full Galaxy S8 vs Nokia 8 comparison.

Check out our Nokia 8 hands-on review and other comparisons for all you need to know.

It’s official: the first flagship phone by ‘the new Nokia’ is out, and it is the Nokia 8, a Snapdragon 835 phone with a dual camera system, and a Zeiss lens and this is the official trailer for the device.

Subscribe for daily smartphone news, leaks, and rumors:

This new Nokia is different from the Nokia you know from the past: a company called HMD Global with some ex-Nokia engineering talent that has acquired the rights to put the Nokia brand on its phones and is trying to resurrect the brand with a focus on clean interfaces and proper support.
The 5.3-inch display on the Nokia 8 is of the LCD variety and packs plenty of pixels – 2560 by 1440 of them for over 550 pixels per inch. Under the hood of the Nokia 8 is a Snapdragon 835 SoC – a powerful, yet energy-efficient ship that should be able to run anything you throw at it. 4GB of RAM are also on board along with 64GB of storage, but you can also pick a higher-end variant offering 6GB of RAM and 128GB of space. You can further use the microSD card slot to add extra gigs if you need them.
On the software side, HMD Global is keeping things clean. The Nokia 8 will run a pretty much stock version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with an update to Android O coming in the near future.
