7 Brilliant Things You Can Do With Your Smartphone

7 Ingenious Tricks and Life Hacks for Your Smartphone. They will help you overcome some everyday problems and make your life much easier. And don’t miss a cool bonus tip at the end!
Nowadays smartphones not only have numerous features of their own but also allow you to download multiple apps for any possible situation and purpose.

TIMESTAMPS
Measure a distance 1:12
Test your remote control batteries 2:25
Control your phone without touching it 3:20
Drive safely 4:10
Send texts from your PC 5:02
Make better decisions 5:54
Keep yourself safe 6:59
BONUS 8:09

SUMMARY
– Download the app called SizeUp, which will let you measure anything you need quickly and easily. This app will help you deal with any challenge in the blink of an eye thanks to its ability to measure almost anything through your phone’s camera. Just run the program, point the camera at the object, and wait for the result.
– Take the remote control, point it at the camera, and press any button. If you see a red or pinkish light coming from the tip of the remote when you look at it through your phone’s display, it means the infrared signal is working properly and the problem, in this case, is the batteries.
– Wave Control is available for both Android and iOS devices. While using this app, you can launch music and video players or answer calls with a wave of your hand without worrying about getting dirt all over your screen while cooking or cleaning.
– If you’re driving in the dark and want to keep your eyes constantly on the road, you can download a certain app called Hudway, which will come in handy. This app helps you drive more safely, especially when it’s raining or snowing outside. It also clears the vision, when there’s fog.
– With the app called Mighty Text, you won’t miss a thing! It syncs your phone and computer or tablet and gives you the opportunity to manage SMS and MMS from your email. All messages linked to your phone number will appear on your computer screen, and you can also find them in your phone’s text inbox.
– To save your time and make the decision-making process a little bit easier, name your options, set characteristics, and let this app called Decision Crafting suggest the best choice instantly. The app makes the final decision after considering all the pros and cons of each choice and comparing them to one another based on different criteria.
– If you often come home late in the evening and feel unsafe on the streets, there’s an app called Bsafe, which may help to calm your nerves and deal with any potential danger. It will not only send an SOS message to your emergency contacts but will also record video and audio, track your GPS location, and set a timer that will automatically send an alarm to friends if you don’t turn it off in time.

– Press *#*#7594#*#*, and your phone will turn off instantly without showing you this small menu.

– IPhone users can turn on the call forwarding function so that all your incoming calls will be pushed right to voicemail. All you have to do is dial *#21#, and there you go.
– This simple combination #31# “phone number” will allow you to hide your phone number in all outgoing calls! It’s definitely worth a try.

12 Dangerous Android Apps You Need to Delete Immediately

Pay attention to the list of the most suspicious apps you may come across in Google Play. Delete them from your phone immediately to protect your personal data and extend the life of your phone.
Their creators promise the apps will optimize your device, extend the life of your battery and protect your phone from viruses. Some of them are even supposed to be lie detectors and defragmentation devices. In fact, all they give you is ads, and what they do is get access to your data and kill your battery. Considering the huge number of apps created every single day, not even Google can keep track and check the safety of all the new programs. So the security of your device mostly depends on you!

TIMESTAMPS
Weather apps 0:43
Social media apps 1:31
Optimizers 2:02
Built-in browsers 2:32
Antivirus programs from unknown developers 3:01
Browsers with additional features 4:26
Apps for increasing your phone’s memory 5:43
Lie detectors 6:14
Defragmentation apps 7:00
Music Player 7:28
Battery Savers and Fast Charge apps 7:51
Wi-Fi apps 8:23

SUMMARY
-There was a weather app that allowed the bad guys to avoid two-step authentication and easily get access to banking information of those who installed it.
-Social media apps suck up so much of your device’s energy and kill the battery too.
-Optimizers don’t make your phone’s system faster, they just slow it down and bring you ads as an added bonus.
-Built-in browsers are mostly slow-working and don’t have any protection from data interception.
-Hackers create their own antivirus apps, which can steal users’ personal data and even completely block the phone.
-You have at least two reasons two delete browsers from your phone: they slow it down, and require access to most aspects of the system, so they can even manage your calls.
-You won’t get more memory than your phone had initially, but will provide memory apps with access to your data.
-Lie detector apps are about as useful as crystal balls, but they kill your battery and get access to your contacts and personal data.
-Defragmentation apps don’t work like promised. They can only analyze how much space certain programs take up, use your phone’s resources and collect your personal data.
-You will want to delete this app because it consumes tons of data since it’s full of ads and causes a massive drain of your battery.
-Battery savers and fast chargers can’t really change the speed of your gadget charging, but can give you endless apps even on lock screen.
-If you don’t want these apps to get access to all your data, avoid them at all costs.

Part 1 How to find nth highest salary in sql

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists
http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists

Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video
http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/05/part-1-how-to-find-nth-highest-salary_17.html

This is a very common SQL Server Interview Question. There are several ways of finding the nth highest salary.

By the end of this video, we will be able to answer all the following questions as well.
How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a Sub-Query
How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a CTE
How to find the 2nd, 3rd or 15th highest salary

Let’s use the following Employees table for this demo

Use the following script to create Employees table
Create table Employees
(
ID int primary key identity,
FirstName nvarchar(50),
LastName nvarchar(50),
Gender nvarchar(50),
Salary int
)
GO

Insert into Employees values (‘Ben’, ‘Hoskins’, ‘Male’, 70000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Mark’, ‘Hastings’, ‘Male’, 60000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Steve’, ‘Pound’, ‘Male’, 45000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Ben’, ‘Hoskins’, ‘Male’, 70000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Philip’, ‘Hastings’, ‘Male’, 45000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Mary’, ‘Lambeth’, ‘Female’, 30000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Valarie’, ‘Vikings’, ‘Female’, 35000)
Insert into Employees values (‘John’, ‘Stanmore’, ‘Male’, 80000)
GO

To find the highest salary it is straight forward. We can simply use the Max() function as shown below.
Select Max(Salary) from Employees

To get the second highest salary use a sub query along with Max() function as shown below.
Select Max(Salary) from Employees where Salary [ (Select Max(Salary) from Employees)

To find nth highest salary using Sub-Query
SELECT TOP 1 SALARY
FROM (
SELECT DISTINCT TOP N SALARY
FROM EMPLOYEES
ORDER BY SALARY DESC
) RESULT
ORDER BY SALARY

To find nth highest salary using CTE
WITH RESULT AS
(
SELECT SALARY,
DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS DENSERANK
FROM EMPLOYEES
)
SELECT TOP 1 SALARY
FROM RESULT
WHERE DENSERANK = N

To find 2nd highest salary we can use any of the above queries. Simple replace N with 2.

Similarly, to find 3rd highest salary, simple replace N with 3.

Please Note: On many of the websites, you may have seen that, the following query can be used to get the nth highest salary. The below query will only work if there are no duplicates.
WITH RESULT AS
(
SELECT SALARY,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS ROWNUMBER
FROM EMPLOYEES
)
SELECT SALARY
FROM RESULT
WHERE ROWNUMBER = 3

REST API & RESTful Web Services Explained

What is REST API? REST stands for Representational State Transfer and API stands for Application Programming Interface.

Additionally, you will get access to ALL Clever Techie videos in HD format with no ads. Thank you so much for supporting Clever Techie 🙂

““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““`
Representational – the resource (image, page, video, profile) is represented by the web server to the client in any format like HTML, Image, JSON, XML etc.

State – the state of the application (web site) on a client’s computer changes as the client clicks from one link to the next. Ask the client clicks on the link, they request additional resources, and the application “state” changes.

Transfer – the transfer of resources from the web server to the client in a “representational” state which can be read by the client or implemented in the application program by the programmer. The transfer may also refer to the application state transfer as the client browses a web site.

API – application programming interface provides useful methods/functions which a programmer can implement into his own application in a chosen programming language like PHP. The API makes it easy for programmers to implement. It’s important to note that the response we get when sending REST API request will usually be in JSON, XML or other format which makes it easy to implement in the code and it’s not meant to be read immediately by a human being.

Build a DIY screen out of recycled parts for cheap

Laptop users generally have to just put up with having a single main screen, but thanks to upcycling we can build a DIY portable secondary screen for laptops using recycled parts to keep the cost as low as $25! It not only performs really well, but it looks incredibly unique – it’s a piece of solid industrial tech this one! Once you use two screens you can never go back!

eBay affiliate link for the control board; add the model number as shown in the video (be sure to include any suffixes like (sp) or (k1):
US buyers: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=9&pub=5575117832&toolid=10001&campid=5337657473&customid=&icep_uq=lcd+monitor+controller+board&icep_sellerId=&icep_ex_kw=&icep_sortBy=12&icep_catId=&icep_minPrice=&icep_maxPrice=&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg
UK buyers: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=9&pub=5575117832&toolid=10001&campid=5337657473&customid=&icep_uq=lcd+monitor+controller+board&icep_sellerId=&icep_ex_kw=&icep_sortBy=12&icep_catId=&icep_minPrice=&icep_maxPrice=&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229508&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg

If your screen isn’t listed, most sellers of the control boards allow you to contact them directly and they will program a control board for your specific screen at no extra cost. Just send them the model number and you should be good to go.

15 Mistakes That Shorten the Life of Your Phone

How to charge the battery correctly? Why do the phone batteries decrease so quickly? We have 15 amazing tips that will make your smartphone live a longer life!

Nowadays one can hardly imagine life without a cell phone. And it happens quite often that our gadgets start to act up just half a year after we bought them. It is frustrating, but in most cases, we ourselves are to blame! Let’s face it — we don’t always handle our devices properly.

TIMESTAMPS
Recharge your battery more often 0:45
Don’t keep the battery charging all the time 1:24
Don’t buy cheap chargers 2:01
Be careful with «ultrafast» chargers 2:28
Remove your protective case 2:49
Drain your battery from time to time 3:10
Avoid high temperatures 3:29
Avoid cold temperatures 4:02
Avoid bright wallpaper and adjust screen brightness 4:34
Watch out for voltage fluctuations 5:19
Clean the ports and wipe the display 5:45
Keep the phone far from water 6:40
Handle your phone carefully 7:15
Avoid software updates 7:42
Use cloud storage 8:29

SUMMARY
– To increase your gadget’s battery life, you should recharge it more often. The best option is to do it each time the battery power indicator drops to 10-20%. This will increase the number of discharge cycles up to 1000-1100 cycles.
– An inbuilt controller stops the battery from taking more current than necessary, so there is absolutely no risk of overcharging the battery and destroying it.
– There have been situations when a person was using a non-native charger, and it caused a fire in the house! And another terrible thing that can happen if you use non-native chargers and cables is getting an electric shock.
– We recommend you to avoid using chargers that claim to charge your battery fully in less than an hour.
– If your smartphone has a bulky protective case, it might cause the device and its battery to overheat during a lengthy recharging session.
– It is recommended to discharge your phone’s battery every three months to 0% and then immediately charge it to 100% to get rid of the extremes of full charge/discharge.
– A high temperature is the worst thing you can imagine for lithium-ion batteries: they totally can’t stand overheating.
– Carry the phone in an inner pocket of your coat or an outer pocket but encased in a protective covering. Low temperatures are harmful to the battery because it needs more power to keep itself warm enough to function.
– Try to lower the brightness of your screen at least by 30-40%.
– At the approach of a thunderstorm, never charge your phone. Actually, the same goes for all the electrical appliances you have.
– To wipe the screen, use lint-free wipers and whatever you do, never use window cleaning liquids. They contain ammonia which can damage the screen irrevocably.
– If you drop your cell phone into a pool or a sink, the first thing you should do after you get it out is turn it off and remove the battery (if it’s possible, of course).
– Don’t put your cell phone on the dashboard when driving. Constant moving and bumping can cause a lot of damage.
– Read user reviews before you hit the update button. The problem with such updates is that it’s either very hard or impossible to go back to the previous version of the software.
– Even if you have a lot of free space on your hard drive, it’s better to use cloud storage anyway. This way your phone won’t be clogged with too much data so that it will perform much better.

Battery Savers and Fast Charge apps 7:51

How I Made My Own iPhone – in China

I built a like-new(but really refurbished) iPhone 6S 16GB entirely from parts I bought in the public cell phone parts markets in Huaqiangbei. And it works!

How much did it cost? Answer here: https://youtu.be/-KucQDXnKws

I’ve been fascinated by the cell phone parts markets in Shenzhen, China for a while. I’d walked through them a bunch of times, but I still didn’t understand basic things, like how they were organized or who was buying all these parts and what they were doing with them.

So when someone mentioned they wondered if you could build a working smartphone from parts in the markets, I jumped at the chance to really dive in and understand how everything works. Well, I sat on it for nine months, and then I dove in.
