Huawei’s Google Nexus 6P Review – Holding strong in 2018

The last released phone in Google’s nexus line of phones.
This is android.
No nonsense. No bloat. Just pure and simple android.

The bloat and the lack of support. It’s what drove me away from the platform. The typical android experience tends to be a short or non existent support cycle followed by an afternoon trying to figure out how to install a somewhat stable version of lineage OS on it.

Nexus. The nexus is on a guaranteed minimum 2 year feature update cycle, followed by another year of security updates.
In the world of andriod phones. Not bad.
But remember, apple still releases updates to its nearly 5 year old iphone 5s.
Now, google has listed these update cycles as minimums, so who knows. But that’s something to understand.

But back to the phone. What a fantastic phone.

A large solid alumin body.
Premium feel that is smoth to the touch..
A bit too smooth though, I recommend you grab a case with a grip if you don’t want slidding away.

A large Beatiful amoled screen with a high 1440 x 2560 resolution – it could be a bit brighter out in daylight, but it is clear and easy to see in all lighting.

And yeah. This thing is huge. Well. That’s what I thought at first. Until I used it for a day, and it just became the comfortable norm. Turns out, this phone isn’t huge, all other phones are tiny.

Oh, and that ridge. Yeah, it has a little ridge, where the camera sits, along with the laser. It does mean that your phone won’t sit flush against a desk. It’s a minor annoyance. Personally I would have preffered they just make the phone thicker with an even bigger battery.

But that’s not what sells. Not in the store when you pick up that thin, lightweight, solid, shinny new phone.

Gorilla glass 4 makes it a durable screen… which I still make it my habit to throw a tempered gass screen onto

A cortex A53 + A57 octa core processor – to give you speed when you need it, and help keep that battery life under control.

It comes in 128, 64, and 32gb internal storage variants – this is the 32gb version – and sorry, no sdcard slot. So what you get is what you have. But with the abundance of cloud services, I find storage a non-issue these days.

That camera… I like it. The laser focus is instant. I really mean it. You take a photo. It’ll be sharp.

In my opinion the quality doesn’t quite match that of my Lumia 930… but its pretty close. As with most android phones, manual options tend to be a bit clumsy, but that won’t be an issue for most users,

And for video… although you can film in 4k with sharp detail and vibrant colours. The lack of optical stabilization is immediately noticeable.

And what’s left? The fingerprint reader. It is instant. You touch it, you are logged in. it works flawlessly.

So all in all. This is a great phone. Way better than anything you’ll find new for 80 eur.

In my opinion the nexus 6p is an example of what android needs to be across the board. A solid phone with no bloat and a decent support cycle.

Google hasn’t officially kiled off the nexus line yet, stating they ”
don’t want to close a door completely, but there is no plan right now to do more Nexus devices”

Hmm… well… Google has the pixel now… so… sort of the same premise. Solid phones without bloat.

I like the phone. Yeah, even on the used market, you pay a slight premium over the competition…. In my opinion, deservedly so.

Google Nexus 4 (LG E960) red Light of death howto fixit deutsch.
