Part 1 How to find nth highest salary in sql

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists
http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists

Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video
http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/05/part-1-how-to-find-nth-highest-salary_17.html

This is a very common SQL Server Interview Question. There are several ways of finding the nth highest salary.

By the end of this video, we will be able to answer all the following questions as well.
How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a Sub-Query
How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a CTE
How to find the 2nd, 3rd or 15th highest salary

Let’s use the following Employees table for this demo

Use the following script to create Employees table
Create table Employees
(
ID int primary key identity,
FirstName nvarchar(50),
LastName nvarchar(50),
Gender nvarchar(50),
Salary int
)
GO

Insert into Employees values (‘Ben’, ‘Hoskins’, ‘Male’, 70000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Mark’, ‘Hastings’, ‘Male’, 60000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Steve’, ‘Pound’, ‘Male’, 45000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Ben’, ‘Hoskins’, ‘Male’, 70000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Philip’, ‘Hastings’, ‘Male’, 45000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Mary’, ‘Lambeth’, ‘Female’, 30000)
Insert into Employees values (‘Valarie’, ‘Vikings’, ‘Female’, 35000)
Insert into Employees values (‘John’, ‘Stanmore’, ‘Male’, 80000)
GO

To find the highest salary it is straight forward. We can simply use the Max() function as shown below.
Select Max(Salary) from Employees

To get the second highest salary use a sub query along with Max() function as shown below.
Select Max(Salary) from Employees where Salary [ (Select Max(Salary) from Employees)

To find nth highest salary using Sub-Query
SELECT TOP 1 SALARY
FROM (
SELECT DISTINCT TOP N SALARY
FROM EMPLOYEES
ORDER BY SALARY DESC
) RESULT
ORDER BY SALARY

To find nth highest salary using CTE
WITH RESULT AS
(
SELECT SALARY,
DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS DENSERANK
FROM EMPLOYEES
)
SELECT TOP 1 SALARY
FROM RESULT
WHERE DENSERANK = N

To find 2nd highest salary we can use any of the above queries. Simple replace N with 2.

Similarly, to find 3rd highest salary, simple replace N with 3.

Please Note: On many of the websites, you may have seen that, the following query can be used to get the nth highest salary. The below query will only work if there are no duplicates.
WITH RESULT AS
(
SELECT SALARY,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS ROWNUMBER
FROM EMPLOYEES
)
SELECT SALARY
FROM RESULT
WHERE ROWNUMBER = 3

Android Developer Live Coding #17 – Android, Kotlin, Software Architecture, Gradle

Format – 2 Live shows per week:
1. Live Q&A (Sunday 9:00AM UTC-8):
Live Q&A is directed towards beginner and intermediate Android/Java/Kotlin Developers with questions regarding said topics. As a self-taught developer, I never wanted anyone to do my work for me, but I could have benefited greatly by someone explain fundamentals and pointing me to resources. General/Principles based questions are easier for me to answer, but sometimes I can help you with API specific questions.

Are you not sure how to ask me a question? Watch this video for some help:
https://youtu.be/2ClVh8Bu4bE

2. Let’s Build an App Live (Monday 9:00AM UTC-8):
This show is still under beta, but my goal is to demonstrate what it is actually like to build good quality software, to an architecture. I’ll still try to address comments in the chat, and take breaks to answer short questions, but this is not meant to be a Q&A primarily.

Making Architecture Matter – Martin Fowler Keynote

From OSCON 2015 in Portland: In the software world, architecture often gets a bad reputation. I’ll talk about why it matters, and how we can pay attention to it without falling into traps.

About Martin Fowler:
Martin Fowler is an author, speaker, consultant, and self-described general loudmouth on software development. He concentrates on designing enterprise software – looking at what makes a good design and which practices are needed to come up with good design. Fowler has been a pioneer of various topics around object-oriented technology and agile methods, and written several books including Refactoring, UML Distilled, Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture, and NoSQL Distilled. For the last decade he’s worked at ThoughtWorks, which he considers a “really rather good” system delivery and consulting firm. He writes at martinfowler.com.

I Adopted Rich People’s Habits, See How My Life Changed

Learn the secrets of success from those who built their own empires from scratch. You can try adopting the habits of super rich people and see how it will help you save money.
Successful people are rarely night owls; they go to bed and wake up quite early. So this was the first habit I decided to take on. By the end of the first week, I noticed that I was able to do way more before noon than I could ever do during the whole day. One more week into the experiment I started waking up completely well-rested and excited to start a new day. Self-made successes swear by exercising every day for at least 30 minutes. After just 10 days, it already became a habit. I became more concentrated and calmer.
If meditating helps successful people stay on top of their game, it should help me out too. Networking is like currency for successful people.
A lot of successful people (like Steve Jobs, for instance) keep a super minimalistic approach to fashion, often wearing the same outfit every day. Truly smart and successful people control their expenses and don’t spend their money on useless things.

Music: Operatic – Vibe Mountain

TIMESTAMPS
Go to bed and wake up quite early 0:34
Exercise every day for at least 30 minutes 1:51
Meditate 3:01
Set goals and achieve them 3:57
Meet new people as much as you can 4:44
Read more useful books 5:34
Wear simple clothes 6:24
Be thrifty 7:10
Conclusion 8:08

SUMMARY
-With will power of steel, I decided to wake up at the same time every day and come to work an hour early. It took me 3 days to get the schedule right.
-The hardest part here wasn’t even the gym itself, it was exercising after working all day. After just 10 days, it already became a habit. I started sleeping better and waking up easier.
-Meditation turned out to be a really good way to get my head straight and renew my energy.
-Even though I didn’t manage to tackle all my tasks, I was able to do more things in the first week than I did during the entire previous month.
-I learned to find common ground with people from the get-go, met a lot of extraordinary individuals, and made some really good friends.
-I carried a book with me at all times and read it on the way to work and back home or during lunch. As a result, by the end of the first month, I had finished my fourth book.
-I no longer had to waste time every day choosing my outfit, deciding whether or not it matched or if it was trendy and whatnot.
-I started out by making a list of everything that I bought every day so that I could see what I spent my money on. This system helped me save 40% of my salary in the first month and almost 60% in the second.
-New habits really did completely change my life for the better.

REST API & RESTful Web Services Explained

What is REST API? REST stands for Representational State Transfer and API stands for Application Programming Interface.

““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““`

““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““““`
Representational – the resource (image, page, video, profile) is represented by the web server to the client in any format like HTML, Image, JSON, XML etc.

State – the state of the application (web site) on a client’s computer changes as the client clicks from one link to the next. Ask the client clicks on the link, they request additional resources, and the application “state” changes.

Transfer – the transfer of resources from the web server to the client in a “representational” state which can be read by the client or implemented in the application program by the programmer. The transfer may also refer to the application state transfer as the client browses a web site.

API – application programming interface provides useful methods/functions which a programmer can implement into his own application in a chosen programming language like PHP. The API makes it easy for programmers to implement. It’s important to note that the response we get when sending REST API request will usually be in JSON, XML or other format which makes it easy to implement in the code and it’s not meant to be read immediately by a human being.

The 4 Dollar Android Smartphone

So it sounds like Adcom (company featured in this video) may sue the company manufacturing the 4 dollar version. If you visit the website for the Freedom 251 you’ll see an exact replica listed at a far lower price. I’m not sure they’ll ever be able to deliver at that price, others are skeptical as well. Starting to sound like a bunch of these went out the side door at the Adcom factory.

How to Kotlin – from the Lead Kotlin Language Designer (Google I/O ’18)

Kotlin is similar to the Java programming language, so it’s natural that your Kotlin code looks very much like Java code when you are first start to use the language. While this is fine to begin with, you’re probably not taking full advantage of all the language benefits. In this session, the lead Kotlin language designer will show you how you can write more idiomatic Kotlin, what the benefits are, and help you discover some of the most powerful yet lesser known features of Kotlin.

Instant factory settings 2:58
Whole reinstallation 3:30

Quick service menu 6:36

Hide your number in outgoing calls 8:13

SUMMARY
– This simple code *#06# is available for both iPhone and Android users. By pressing it, you can see your International Mobile Equipment Identity number, or, as it shortly called, IMEI.
– The code *#30# will help you turn your number identification on or off. So if you want to hide your identity and go incognito for some time, this is a way to go. It works the other way around also. By pressing *#30#, you can find out the number identification of the person, who’s calling you if he or she didn’t turn it off beforehand.
– The combination *#*#4636#*#* has various purposes, depending on your device. If you have an Android, use this code to see the Wi-Fi signal as well as your battery and CPU usage statistics along with other information.
– If you want to try in just press the following combination – *33*#. Voila! Now you won’t be bothered by any outgoing calls. Don’t forget that you can turn this function off any time by pressing #33*pin#.
– After using the combination *#*#7780#*#*, your phone will remove Google account settings as well as application data and settings.
– The code *2767*3855# will not only remove all your phone files and settings but also reinstall your phone’s firmware.
– The combination *3370# is available only for iPhone users and turns on an EFR coding. It improves the quality of your communication, but, unfortunately, reduces battery life.
– Press the combination *#*#8351#*#*, and you’ll be able to listen to recordings of your own voice during the last 20 phone calls!
– iPhone users can quickly find out the number of a service center for a current provider when in need, by simply pressing the combination *#5005*7672#.
– Press *#*#7594#*#*, and your phone will turn off instantly without showing you this small menu.
– If you’re in this group of people, and you have an iPhone, there is a very important function that can make your life way easier. It’s this combination – *43#.
– If you’re in this group of people, and you have an iPhone, there is a very important function that can make your life way easier. It’s this combination – *43#.
– Enter the Field Mode by tapping *3001#12345#*, then press and hold Power until the off slider appears. Then release Power and press Home. Now you see your signal in dBa.
– IPhone users can turn on the call forwarding function so that all your incoming calls will be pushed right to voicemail. All you have to do is dial *#21#, and there you go.
– This simple combination #31# “phone number” will allow you to hide your phone number in all outgoing calls! It’s definitely worth a try.

Which one of these codes do you find the most useful? Tell us your opinions in the comment section below!

The Secret Behind Numbers 369 Tesla Code Is Finally REVEALED! (without music)

As requested… I uploaded The Secret Behind Numbers 369 Tesla Code Is Finally REVEALED! (without music)
https://youtu.be/Mg7FI8cAuQs

READ FULL ARTICLE HERE – http://369news.net/2018/04/10/secret-behind-numbers-369-tesla-code-finally-revealed/

Nikola Tesla did countless mysterious experiments, but he was a whole other mystery on his own. Almost all genius minds have a certain obsession. Nikola Tesla had a pretty big one!

He was walking around a block repeatedly for three times before entering a building, he would clean his plates with 18 napkins, he lived in hotel rooms only with a number divisible by 3. He would make calculations about things in his immediate environment to make sure the result is divisible by 3 and base his choices upon the results. He would do everything in sets of 3.

Some say he had OCD, some say he was very superstitious.
However, the truth is a lot deeper.
“If you knew the magnificence of the three, six and nine, you would have a key to the universe.” – Nikola Tesla

This year, Apple released 3 new models of iPhone. The iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR. This review focuses on the XS, and discusses everything about it that is awesome, terrible, and anything in between. There are definitely some great features in this phone, and some that I think are a step backward. But in any case, it might still be a good upgrade if you have an older iPhone.

Android Developer Live Q&A #57 – Android, Kotlin, Software Architecture, Gradle

Format – 2 Live shows per week:
1. Live Q&A (Sunday 10:00AM UTC -7):
Live Q&A is directed towards beginner and intermediate Android/Java/Kotlin Developers with questions regarding said topics. As a self-taught developer, I never wanted anyone to do my work for me, but I could have benefited greatly by someone explain fundamentals and pointing me to resources. General/Principles based questions are easier for me to answer, but sometimes I can help you with API specific questions.

2. Let’s Build an App Live (Monday 10:00AM UTC-7):
This show is still under beta, but my goal is to demonstrate what it is actually like to build good quality software, to an architecture. I’ll still try to address comments in the chat, and take breaks to answer short questions, but this is not meant to be a Q&A primarily.

Programming WTF – How to learn code faster and get hired sooner | Top 2 Tips

Warning: I swear some times.

In this video, I summarize my thoughts on some of the most important things a beginner developer needs to know. Primarily, it contains tips and knowledge regarding the best way to learn new concepts and tools quickly. I also discuss what I believe to be the most important factor in getting hired as a junior developer; having work samples on a revision control system.

Reflections on Willpower (Motivation), Goals, and Hard Work

A friend of mine asked if I could talk about willpower, which I define as the ability to put forth effort towards a particular goal, regardless of of how difficult it may be to do so.

If you’re expecting me to be concise, you’ll want to skip this one.

Topics discussed:
– Being an Obsessive Person (the good and bad sides of that)
– Having an overarching goal in life
– Destroying self doubt and useless mental states through reflecting on death (lol, that sounds darker than it probably is)
– Determining intermediate steps (daily practice) necessary to achieve a goal
– The downside of always trying to aggressively reach goals
– The most profound analogy I’ve ever heard, regarding when to work hard, and when to let go of all the habits and beliefs which support you in achieving a particular goal.

Much of this discussion is based on my understanding of Stoic and Buddhist philosophy, which has supported me immensely in my development as a human being.

Git Branching and Merging Strategies

PLEASE READ: This video demonstrates an EXAMPLE of git branching and merging strategies. It’s a decent template to get you started in different situations. It’s not a “THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD DO IT” video. These are ideas based upon my experience. Hopefully they will increase your understanding of git. In the end, you should UNDERSTAND your own process, how git works, and then create a branching and merging strategy that works for YOU and your situation.

—-

Three similar branching and merging strategies in Git, with a common goal of keeping development history linear.

PowerPoint: http://goo.gl/kQPwb

NOTE 1: This example branching and merging strategy is intended for larger development teams that manage a formalized development cycle with distinct development, testing, and release phases, and require production maintenance of more than just the latest version of the product. I don’t recommend these thoughts for small teams and simple development processes.

NOTE 2: One thing to remember is that my advice is simply an example put together from my experiences. If you don’t know where to start, the specific processes I’ve laid out are a good starting point, but be sure as you get more comfortable with things to adapt them to your specific needs or preferences.

NOTE 3: Note 2 implies that you take the time to understand what I’ve laid out and not just emulate it and also to be in touch with what your development process needs are.
