Slide Animation Between Activites – Android Studio Tutorial

In this video we will learn, how we can add a sliding transition between activities. We will first apply them to specific activities only by using the overridePendingTransition method after starting an intent and also after calling the finish method. Then we will learn how to apply them globally to our whole app by creating a seperate theme in our styles.xml file and apply it to our app theme with the windowAnimationStyle attribute.

What is Context in Android Programming?

When we call a method or a constructor, we often have to pass a context and often we use “this” to pass the activity context or “getApplicationContext” to pass the application context.
But what is this “context” and what does it actually do?

Using your Phone as a Hotspot – Android and iPhone | weBoost

To learn more mobile hotspots and signal boosters, click here: https://goo.gl/VHrFfq

What is WiFi tethering? How can I turn my phone into a personal hotspot? Which phones are capable of becoming a mobile hot spot? Will it work with my Android or iPhone? These are common questions when it comes to using your phone as a WiFi hotspot. We cover how to tether your smartphone to WiFi and how to access your phone’s mobile hotspot feature in this video.

Are you on the go, but want to stay connected on your laptop for work or other activities? Great news, you can use your cell phone as a mobile hotspot giving wifi to your laptop or any other wifi enabled device while on the go, at airports, or at a hotel – anywhere wifi is not available.

Most smartphones have a built in mobile hotspot feature and it’s easy to do:

On an iPhone, go to settings, cellular and tap personal hotspot at the top of the screen and it will create a hotspot giving you the password to log on below. There are also instructions that will walk you through how to connect to the hotspot via wifi, Bluetooth and using a USB cable.
On an android device go to settings, wireless & Networks, more Items and check the box next to Portable wifi hotspot or mobile hotspot.

On either type of phone if the option is not there or greyed out then your phone is not capable of producing a wifi hotspot due to device capability or plan restrictions

A mobile hotspot will cover about 30 feet from the device and weaken as you get further from the phone. Also, obstructions like walls and furniture will degrade or weaken the signal so get as close to the phone as possible with a clear line of sight.

Be aware that using a mobile hotspot will use up your data so keep an eye on your usage as you use this feature.
If you have any questions leave us a comment.

Why I Don’t Use A Smart Phone | Ann Makosinski | TEDxTeen

Imagine all the things you can do…off of your phone. Parents be warned.

TEDxTeen opening music by BlackDoe

Ann Makosinski is an 18 year-old student, innovator and entrepreneur. Her first toy was a box of transistors. From there, her interest in science and creating arose. One of her friends in the Philippines got a failing grade because she didn’t have any electricity or light to study with at night. As a potential solution, Ann invented a flashlight that ran off the heat of the human hand – the Hollow Flashlight. The invention won her age category at the 2013 Google Science Fair, as well as numerous awards at the Intel Science and Engineering Fair. She appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and was named one of TIMES 30 Under 30. Ann hopes to manufacture her flashlight, bringing the invention to developing countries and including them in emergency kits. Ann also invented the eDrink – a coffee mug that harvests the excess heat of your hot drink and converts it into electricity to charge a phone. Ann debuted the eDrink this October on her second appearance on the Tonight Show.

Is My iPhone Unlocked? How To Check | weBoost

https://goo.gl/Mv6b33 – Learn how you can get better cell signal for your iPhone here.

Is my iPhone locked? We’ll show you how to check in this quick video. This works for any iPhone that has as SIM card including iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus. If you have another model of iPhone without a SIM card this will not apply.

There are two basic methods to check if your iPhone is unlocked. Method one check using the phone’s settings. This method is quick and easy but does require that you have access to the phone in question. It also isn’t 100% accurate.

For a more accurate method use the second method which requires you to have two SIM cards from two different carriers. Borrow one from a friend or family member and follow the instructions in this video to check if your phone or one you intend to purchase is unlocked by the carrier.

If your phone is unlocked it’s easy enough to get it unlocked. How do i unlock my iPhone you may ask? It’s as simple as giving your carrier a call. The phone must be paid for outright or no longer be under contract however, so check before you make the call.

weBoost makes powerful cell phone signal boosters. So if you’re fed up with your carrier and are looking to switch because of poor cell service check out one of our boosters. It will help you stay connected in your home or vehicle.

1. App Market Research

The very first thing which we tell our clients and all the entrepreneurs out there is to study the market. You must learn to plan ahead. Go out and see what other developers are doing, read their stories of failure and success. Social apps and gaming apps are the biggest success which you can think of. The biggest reason for them being successful is the fact that these are the most liked and simple apps to use. Look at the current trends, you must know what is happening right now. Understand your to-be-users behavior. You must serve them exactly what they need and this can be done only by proper market research.

Get to know how successful developers started their journeys. The most important part being the funds which they arranged. You must start planning your funding at least 3-4 months before you start with your app. Funds are going to be the backbone of your business. Being realistic is again very crucial, don’t think about what people would need after 5 years, think of now. With time you will automatically be able to improvise your app and meet the demand of your users (a good long term team is key if you want to ease the future updates!).

Your idea is going to be the unique selling point, therefore do not rush on monetizing your app in the first stance. But, don’t avoid it forever. You need to have a vision on what are you going to sell. Work on your idea, make it absolutely unique and very clear, keeping on mind on what are you going to sell/offer in the future.

Lastly, arrange your funds and keep it very clear about your launch time. If you want to launch an app in Christmas then make sure you have started your work somewhere around July or August. Use your common sense, don’t release products that are meant for summer, on winter.

2. App Development

a. Simplicity: Your app must be very simple in terms of functionality and design. Even a 10 years old should understand it. The app must be straightforward making people understand in less than 10 seconds. If people fail to understand it quickly then they are going to uninstall your app right away. Twitter is a classic example where most of the people have not liked its interface or have hard time understanding their mechanics, loosing their power against Instagram and Snapachat.

b. Functionality: Don’t go over the top. You shouldn’t be concentrating on making your app the most striking one, rather be concerned about minimalist functions. It should have everything that is required to work and nothing else. Check this video if you want to learn more about this topic.

c. Easiness of updates: This is a very important point. Your app should not be fussy about updates. Too many and too little updates are going to spoil users for you. Google is very fast as compared to iOS in terms of updates and software technologies. Your app must be able to meet each and every requirement at the right time.

d. Security: Make your app very secure. Around 50% of the Waypedia revenue is spent in security! Do not cut your cost on this element as security ensures that you have get to have your user’s trust and loyalty.

3. App Marketing

Here is the last but a very crucial point to be noted. You have done your research and have developed a brilliant app but now you need to go out and sell it. Marketing would require lot of money, therefore, you must set the right budget and plan way ahead. Make sure that your content is saleable, it is unique and serves its purpose well. Hire specialists if you are absolutely new to marketing. Marketing is a completely different world than developing an app and requires full time attention.

Use all forms of social media from Facebook to YouTube to Twitter and even Snapchat. Spend a lot of time on your app and try to connect with people via live chats.
Create a website of your own and cross-promote your app on it. Cross-promoting is a very important element of app business (and the cheapest one!). Targeting specific audience becomes very easy when you promote your app via social media but it is very expensive at the same time as well, so do it through content instead of upselling all right on their faces.

There must be a landing page to your website no matter where you promote your app. Share a couple of links, create blogs and maybe have some interactive sessions with people.
Your app must be a seller and it should have some impact on your users. App business requires you to make your users understand your app’s need. Explain how your app is going to change their life. Design your app’s looks as per the group of people you want to target and focus on the social media platforms that represent them. Don’t waste time on mediums where your users ARE NOT!

Contextual Action Mode – Android Studio Tutorial

In this video we will learn, how to activate the contextual action mode, which is very similar to the floating context menu, but shows the menu options in the action bar instead of a pop up menu. We will activate this contextual action menu on a long click, by setting an onLongClickListener on our View. We will set it’s title and implement an ActionMode.Callback interface, in which we then override the oncreateActionMode, onPrepareActionMode, onActionItemClicked and onDestroyActionMode methods. There we inflate our app bar menu with our own menu xml file and handle click events on the single menu items.
Lastly we will learn, how to change the color of our action mode app bar and how to prevent it from pushing our toolbar away, instead of displaying on top of it, by using the windowActionBarOverlay attribute in our styles.xml file.

Develop Roulette game in Android Studio

Video shows you how to make simple Roulette game for Android.

It may be a little hard to understand the part where I set the ranges of the numbers but I’ll try to explain. The roulette has 37 sectors. The whole circle is 360 degrees. That makes 360 / 37 = 9.72 degrees each of the sectors. The first sector (number 32 red) starts from half the previous sector (number 0) and is 9.72 degrees. That means it starts from 9.72 / 2 = 4.86 and ends in 4.86 + 9.72 = 14.58 degrees. In other hand 14.58 equals 3 times 4.86. So i pick half the sector 4.86 as a FACTOR. Based on this factor we calculate all the sectors. The first one as we said is from FACTOR to FACTOR * 3. Second sector (number 15 black) is from FACTOR * 3 to FACTOR * 5. And this continues for all of the sectors. Only the sector 0 is a little bit different. It starts from 360 degrees minus FACTOR and ends with 0 degrees + FACTOR. You can see all the sectors in the video.
