Jesus in Genesis: 1. The First Word of the Bible

I asked my dad once how do you convince a Jewish person that Jesus is the Messiah. He told me to show them Jesus in the Old Testament. My first thought was like everyone’s, the Old Testament (The Tanakh) is for the Jews and the New Testament (B’rit Chadashah) is for the Christians. My dad had it right. Jesus is on every page of the Old Testament; you just have to look. To prove my dad’s point, look where Jesus is hiding in plain sight in the very first word of the Bible. God bless you for watching.—John

Jesus is NOT the Christ-1John 2:22

John 8:54-55 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. (KJV)

1John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. (KJV)

1Jn 2:22 τις εστιν ο ψευστης ει μη ο αρνουμενος οτι ιησους ουκ εστιν ο χριστος ουτος εστιν ο αντιχριστος ο αρνουμενος τον πατερα και τον υιον (Greek-TR)

1Jn 2:22 quis est mendax nisi is qui negat quoniam Iesus non est Christus hic est antichristus qui negat Patrem et Filium (Vulgate)

1Jn 2:22 τις εστιν ο ψευστης

Who is the liar

ει μη ο αρνουμενος οτι
if not the one who denies that

ιησους ουκ εστιν ο χριστος
Jesus not is the Christ

Please understand that I have never claimed to be a language scholar. I am merely pointing this out to help motive others to study the Bible themselves. It is my personal belief that the Jesus described in the Bible is a fictional character, and that although the stories in the Bible may in fact contain some actual historical events, the main focus is to teach us spiritual truths, through the use of allegory, just as the ancient myths did.

Some argue that there is a double negative used in this verse, but it is NOT true. Now while they are correct that the construct “ου μη” (ou me), meaning “not not”, IS a double negative in Greek, and is often used for emphasis, the fact remains that “ου μη” was not used in this verse. In English a double negative reverses the meaning of a phrase, and is considered bad grammar,(i.e.-“You don’t not know”) but, in Greek it is used for emphasis as in Matthew 5:18 where it is translated as “no wise” in the KJV. Again, “ου μη” is not used in this verse, or for that matter in any of the epistles of John.
